Discover Barbados
Barbados is the most eastern island in the Caribbean, and is a tiny dot on
most world maps with an area of 430 square kilometres. Barbados has a
population of about 260,000 - which is quite high considering its size. With
97 kilometres of coastline, Barbados has much to offer its visitors in terms
of water sports and beach activities: We expect you will be spending much of
your day there. Barbados is most well know for its extensive and beautiful
white sandy beaches and clear blue seas which are full of coral reefs and
exotic fish species. This is indeed the main reason for why so many tourists
visit the island, but it is not the only attraction in Barbados. The capital
of Bridgetown is home to some delightful colonial British buildings and has
a multicultural and very relaxed feel. The island also has a lively
nightlife with plenty of great bars and night clubs in Barbados. Outdoor
activities in Barbados include windsurfing, snorkeling, water skiing and
opportunities for some unique scuba diving. Restaurants in Barbados offer an
exotic selection of cuisine, including delicious seafood, tropical fruits
and spices. Most hotels in Barbados are in or around the capital of
Bridgetown and vary in standards.
Holiday in Barbados and you will find yourself on the most easterly of the
Caribbean islands, the terrain is fantastic, the beaches are spectacular all
the white sand and turquoise sea you could wish for. The east coast offers
the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, or retreat to the west for the calmness of
the Caribbean Sea. The nights are filled with the sound of calypso music,
and the rum flows plentifully. Barbados offers the Caribbean with a hint of
old England; you shouldn't be surprised to see the odd picture of the Queen,

Getting There
By Air
Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) is located on the south coast of
Barbados, in Christ Church Parish. Barbados is served by British West Indian
Airlines (BWIA), British Airways (BA), American Airlines (AA) Air Canada
(AC), Canadian Airlines and Air Jamaica (AJ).
By Sea
Barbados, has an international deep water harbour at Bridgetown, and is a
port of call for a number of British, European and American cruise lines.
By Road
Barbados has a good network of roads which covers the entire island.
Traffic drives on the left. There is a speed limit of 60kmph (37mph per
hour). The road journey from Bridgetown to Speightstown takes about 30
minutes and to Holetown or Oistins about 20 minutes.
